Psychotherapy is a health oriented practice that encompasses the use of therapeutic modalities and approaches to support mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness. Psychotherapy can offer a wide array of benefits, including deeper self awareness and understanding, personal growth & transformation, emotional expression, enriched relationships, support processing the past, and so on. Sessions are designed to support folks on whatever journey they may be on in their life, free of judgement or expectation.

A moment to slow down, listen inward, and connect with self.
While the intentions for therapy are unique to each individual, sessions always offer you dedicated time to honour and create space for you. In our busy day to day lives, we often struggle to connect with our deeper thoughts, feelings, and needs.
Honouring the mind & body connection.
Our mental and emotional health, is also our physical health. Therapy can support your hollistic wellness by encouraging you to tune in and listen to the wisdom of your body. Psychotherapeutic approaches integrate evidence-based practices that prioritize nervous system and brain health.

Safe, private, and confidential space.
Sharing our deepest thoughts, feelings, and reflections can be overwhelming which makes therapy a highly vulnerable process. Whether we are meeting virtually via a video call, in-person at my office, or in your home/in the community - rest assured that your privacy and confidentiality is a top priority.

What happens during a psychotherapy session?Psychotherapy sessions can look different for every person, depending on your unique needs. This is the beautiful part about therapy - there is no one size fits all model. A few things that remain consistent across most sessions include: checking in/sharing about what feels important in your life at that time, as well as honouring and working together to deepen intentions or goals you're holding for yourself.
-
How long are sessions?Sessions are typically 50-55 minutes long, with integrated breaks as you need them. I am happy to accommodate shorter or longer session times as needed. I always encouraged folks to bring along water, tea, snacks, or any other comfort items they enjoy during sessions. Whether you're engaging virtually, in-person, or at home - these details are important to the therapeutic experience.

What kind of training do psychotherapists have?Psychotherapists in Canada must obtain an undergraduate degree, followed by a masters/post graduate level program. We are also required to complete hundreds of practicum hours, along with intensive clinical supervision to continue professional growth + development beyond graduation. Psychotherapists are then required to register with regulatory bodies that uphold and protect individuals who are accessing therapy by setting standards for therapeutic practice. You can learn more about this at the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association's website: https://www.ccpa-accp.ca/

Who can attend therapy? There is a long standing belief that therapy is only needed when something is wrong with us, or something is troubling us in our lives. Given what we know today about mental + emotional health and wellness, I believe that everyone can benefit from therapeutic support in some capacity. You deserve to get to know yourself, and create space to process your day to day experiences in this life! this is a great question to explore during a free consultation call.
